"How to Keep Your Garden Thriving in the Summer Heat: Tips for Gardening Success"

It is widely recognized that the intense and enduring heat we are currently experiencing presents many challenges. The high temperatures bring along bugs, smoke, drought, and various other factors that complicate gardening.

Despite the unique challenges of gardening in hot climates, there is no need to worry; you can still enjoy beautiful planters and a plentiful harvest.

Here are some tips to help you enjoy gardening success this summer.

  1. Water early in the morning so that plants have plenty of time to absorb water to make it through the day. Water evaporates more rapidly in the afternoon, so morning watering allows more soil to reach the plants roots.

  2. Water the soil, not the plant! Make sure to get the water underneath the plant's foliage and soak the soil completely. Watering the leaves and blooms of your plants can cause damage to the plants and prevents them from receiving adequate amounts of moisture. If possible, use a drip line or soaker hose to make sure that your plants are being watered thoroughly.

  3. Fertilize often. Many people make the mistake of forgetting to feed their plants. As a result, the plants do not receive the nutrients that they need to keep growing healthy and strong, especially when they are stressed from the heat.

  4. Make sure that your plants have enough soil. Small pots are nearly impossible to keep watered and healthy all season long. Planting in large pots with plenty of soil or planting directly in the ground helps to prevent plants from becoming root bound, allowing them to absorb plenty of water and nutrients.

  5. Don't be afraid to prune. Dead head your plants as needed to encourage more blooms, and cut back plants that look leggy or stressed.

Hang in there! With a little bit of patience and consistency, you can maintain a beautiful backyard oasis even in the hottest days of summer.
